El cardenal argentino Jorge Mario Bergoglio ha sido elegido hoy Papa y ha escogido el nombre de Francisco. El nuevo pontífice, jesuita de 76 años, es el 266 Papa de la Iglesia Católica y el primero de América Latina.
Sucede a Benedicto XVI, quien renunció el pasado febrero.
El anuncio de la elección del 266 papa de la historia de la Iglesia lo hizo el primer cardenal de los diáconos (el Protodiácono), el francés Jean Louis Tauran.
El nuevo pontífice fue el segundo más votado en el cónclave de 2005, en el que fue elegido el alemán Joseph Ratzinger, Benedicto XVI.
En su primera aparición como sumo pontífice, el papa Francisco I, el cardenal argentino Jorge Mario Bergoglio, dijo hoy en sus primeras palabras a los fieles que "parece que los cardenales han ido a buscar al nuevo pontífice al fin del mundo", en referencia a su país, Argentina.

El nuevo papa, Francisco I, se presentó a los fieles pidiendo que pidan a Dios que le bendiga en su nuevo camino, que debe ser de amor y hermandad.
