Asimismo, el magistrado Richard Berra rechazó declarar complejo el caso de narcotráfico que implica a los nombrados Rafael Romero Romero, Rafaelín Amparo Linares, Manuel Zorrilla Romero, José Mercedes Amaro y José Villa, mientras ordenó que la medida de coerción sea cumplida en la cárcel pública local. Fueron arrestados durante una operación realizada por la DNCD el pasado 30 de enero.
Cordero Jiménez dijo que solicitó un año y seis meses contra el grupo, conforme lo faculta el artículo 370 del Código Procesal Penal, mientras la defensa propuso la libertad pura y simple, pero el juez decidió imponerle tres meses. Los oficiales de la DNCD que actuaron en el caso estuvieron presentes en la vista, dijo desde Santo Domingo el vocero de la agencia, Roberto Lebrón.
“Hemos logrado que estas personas, algunas de ellas reincidentes, vayan a prisión y ahora vamos a reunir elementos de prueba junto a la DNCD para formalizar la acusación correspondiente en el plazo dado por el magistrado que emitió el fallo coercitivo”, dijo el fiscal en un comunicado. De acuerdo a la DNCD esas personas integran una estructura de narcotráfico que lleva cocaína a Puerto Rico.
El caso fue realizado por la DNCD en coordinación con la Administración Antidrogas de Estados Unidos (DEA) cuando los detenidos tripulaban una embarcación con no menos de 150 paquetes de cocaína, la mayoría de los cuales fueron lanzados al agua. Son reincidentes Romero Romero, apodado Faelo; Villa Mercedes, Zorrilla Romero y Mercedes Amparo, quienes resultaron detenidos en otras circunstancias similares.
El grupo fue interceptado el 30 de enero último cuando navegaban por el litoral próximo a Punta Esmeralda, con destino a Puerto Rico. Todos son nativos de Miches y se les sindica como especie “lobos de mar” que se dedican al trasiego de estupefacientes, haciendo creer que sin pescadores, según los reportes hechos por la DNCD. La droga estaba cubierta en sacos de polipropileno.
