El accidente siguió a otro hecho similar ocurrido este sábado en el norte del país, que tampoco dejó víctimas mortales.
En el primer caso, un CESNA 421 bimotor tuvo que hacer un aterrizaje forzoso luego de que el piloto comprobó que existían fallas en el tren de aterrizaje.
El incidente se produjo este viernes en el aeropuerto internacional de Punta Cana, 205 kilómetros al este de Santo Domingo, cuando el aparato transportaba a tres ciudadanos franceses, dos rusos, cuatro austriacos y al piloto dominicano.
La compañía Tropical Aero Servicios, dueña del aparato, señaló que gracias a la pericia del piloto, que sobrevoló la terminal durante veinte minutos para agotar el combustible, los ocupantes de la aeronave no sufrieron heridas.
"Al llegar al área del incidente se encontraron nueve pasajeros en condición estable y deambulando. Se les ofreció servicio médico y ellos refirieron encontrarse en buen estado de salud", dijo la compañía.
En principio, medios locales informaron que los turistas resultaron con heridas leves como laceraciones.
El accidente ocurrió a alrededor de la 18:00 hora local (22:00 GMT) del sábado, horas después de que los turistas partieron en un viaje de excursión desde la localidad de Samaná, 245 kilómetros al noreste de la capital dominicana.
Varios camiones de bomberos y equipos de rescate tuvieron que ser movilizados en la terminal de Punta Cana, donde la División de Investigaciones de Accidentes Aéreos del Instituto Dominicano de Aviación Civil (IDAC) inició una investigación.
En el segundo caso, ocurrido con una diferencia de alrededor de 24 horas después, un avión monomotor se estrelló cerca del aeropuerto internacional del Cibao, ubicado en la localidad de Santiago, 155 kilómetros al norte de la capital, pero el piloto y el pasajero resultaron ilesos.La aeronave, un Rockwell Comander RC-112, de propiedad privada, cayó con sus ocupantes dominicanos en un área boscosa y sufrió "daños de poca envergadura" , según un comunicado del IDAC.
El accidente ocurrió al promediar las 17:00 hora local (21:00 GMT) del sábado.
