Los apresados fueron identificados como Almas Rahimi, canadiense de origen paquistaní apodado “El Pingüino”, los mexicanos Alma Sánchez Cervantes y John Edward Hidalgo, (El Vecino), además de Julio César Pérez, contratado por los extranjeros para que les ayudara a cruzar la frontera por Jimaní, donde fueron capturados por miembros de la agencia antinarcóticos y de otras agencias de seguridad.
El portavoz de la DNCD, Roberto Lebrón, citó entre los detenidos, igualmente, a Carlos David Pérez Cuevas, (El Tío), definido como uno de los principales contactos con que contaban los extranjeros para realizar sus actividades ilícitas.
Otras dos personas, entre ellas una mujer, son buscadas para ponerlas a disposición de los tribunales por tener la responsabilidad de reclutar mulas y de reservar los hoteles.
“Esta banda fue desmantelada después de que la DNCD detuviera a dos mulas, entre ellas una rusa, tratando de salir del país por los aeropuertos de Puerto Plata y Punta Cana”, dijo Lebrón.
Los frustrados viajeros son el canadiense de origen dominicano Juan Jiménez Capellán y el también canadiense de ascendencia rusa Takdeer Hira, impedidos de viajar a Toronto y a Moscú con sus estómagos llenos de bolsas de cocaína.
Esos arrestos fueron realizados en fechas separadas por agentes antinarcóticos en las citadas terminales y los ahora imputados ofrecieron datos adicionales para poder detener a los individuos, sobre todo a los extranjeros, además de las informaciones de que disponía la institución por el seguimiento dado al grupo.
“Esa banda enviaba drogas a distintos lugares del mundo incluida la lejana ciudad de Moscú, la capital rusa”, agregó.
Empleaban la modalidad de reclutar mulas para que tragaran drogas o la llevaran adheridas al cuerpo al exterior, además de emplear maletas de doble fondo, de acuerdo al informe dado a conocer por la DNCD en un comunicado de prensa.
“Las personas que faltan por detener son un intermediario y una mujer a nombre de la cual estaban las cuentas bancarias y reservaba los hoteles en el este para hospedar a los viajeros”, comentó.
El seguimiento dado a estos individuos estuvo a cargo de la División de Asuntos Internacionales. Esas personas están presas en Puerto Plata, Higüey y Jimaní, donde ya tienen prisión preventiva, aunque se tiene certeza de que surgirán otros elementos que permitirán detener a otros sospechosos de estar ligados a esa red de narcotráfico.
