Un sargento de la Policía y un supuesto asaltante resultaron muertos ayer durante un enfrentamiento a tiros ocurrido en la carretera Mella, en esta ciudad de Higüey.
El sargento fue identificado como Víctor Castro Contreras, de 38 años y nativo de San Pedro de Macorís, mientras que el civil fue identificado como Natanael Valenzuela Crhis, de 27, quien residía en el sector Villa Cerro, de esta ciudad.
El hecho se habría producido cuando una patrulla motorizada dirigida por el agente ordenó que Natanael y otro acompañante se pararan, pero éstos no acataron el llamado y la emprendieron a tiros contra los agentes.
Testigos aseguran que luego de Natanael herir al agente le quitó el arma y cuando intentó huir con ella del lugar fue repelido por el compañero de Castro Contreras y otros agentes que llegaron al lugar, donde le provocaron la muerte.
Mientras la Policía persigue al acompañante de Natanael para apresarlo y someterlo a la justicia.
