Los padres de unos 50 o más años y el hijo de 22, que no fueron identificados por las autoridades de esa isla, fueron arrestados en Las Bermudas y se les confiscaron los pasaportes y otros documentos de viaje, según reveló el sitio Sun News Network.
La tripulación se comunicó con la policía del aeropuerto de Las Bermudas, una isla de El Caribe cercana a la República Dominicana y los oficiales subieron a la nave, deteniendo a los empedernidos fumadores.
El inspector policial Paul Simons dijo que el trío recibió la orden de permanecer en Las Bermudas donde no se aclaró si serían procesados judicialmente.
Fueron alojados en un hotel durante la noche y continuarían el viaje el sábado en la noche. Los oficiales dijeron que al parecer, los fumadores no entendieron el mensaje de la tripulación ni respetaron las señales escritas que prohíben fumar en los aviones.
“Tal vez, estaban todos borrachos, pero no lo aparentaban”, dijo una fuente de la investigación.
Esa misma línea se enfrenta a una eventual huelga de sus 900 asistentes de vuelo por mejora salarial y otros beneficios.
El 23 de enero de este año comenzaron las negociaciones entre el sindicato y los propietarios de la empresa área.
